At Harbour House, we offer an excellent afternoon tea, Monday to Saturday between 12-5 pm. Located at The Grove, Bristol (BS1 4RB), along Bristol’s floating harbour in a 19th-century transit shed. Crafted alongside Bristol Pastry Kitchen, it features savouries like our Cacklebean egg mayo focaccia and prawn & crayfish cocktail tarts, freshly baked plain and fruit scones with clotted cream and fruit preserve and handcrafted desserts like the Brunel chai choux bun and passionfruit & chocolate macarons.
What are three rules for afternoon tea?
We're open to you enjoying your afternoon tea however you like, but the traditional rules are:
1. Eat in Tier Order: Eat bottom-to-top on the tiered stand, beginning with savoury items, followed by scones, ending with sweet pastries.
2. Stir Tea Quietly: Stir tea back and forth from the 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock position rather than in circles to avoid clinking the cup wall with your spoon.
3. Break Scones by Hand: Gently break scones apart with your hands instead of using a knife, applying cream and jam to small bite-sized pieces as you eat.
How much does afternoon tea cost in Bristol?
Afternoon tea at Harbour House costs £30 per person, which includes unlimited tea and coffee from Triple Co Roasters. You can add a glass of Dunleavy Sparkling White or Rosé for £10 or a Bristol Distilling Co 'G & Tea' served in a teapot for £12.
Can you take leftovers from afternoon tea?
If you can't finish your afternoon tea, please ask your server, and we'd be happy to provide takeaway boxes for your leftovers. While your cakes and pastries travel well, we'd recommend not travelling with egg sandwiches or seafood as they are far more perishable.
